    Global shipyard and shipowner order rankings in 2025

    According to Clarkson statistics, there are 2,493 global new ship orders in 2025, totaling 58,092,936 CGT. Among them, the world's top 30 shipbuilding groups have placed new orders for 1,470 ships, totaling 49,084,336 CGT. The number of ships and CGT account for 58.97% and 84.49% of the total new ship orders in 2025 respectively.
    In terms of order-receiving countries, China Shipbuilding Group will receive 1,512 orders in 2025, totaling 35,785,917CGT, Japan will receive 231 orders, totaling 3,252,309CGT, and South Korea will receive orders. There are 260 ships in total, with a total of 11,848,836 CGT. The proportions of the number of ships are: 60.65%, 9.27%, and 10.43% respectively, and the proportions of CGT are: 61.60%, 5.60%, and 20.40% respectively.
    The main ship types newly signed in 2025 are: container ships, bulk carriers and oil tankers. The number of newly signed orders for container ships worldwide was 644, totaling 23,126,624CGT; the number of newly signed orders for bulk carriers was 448, totaling 9,715,919CGT; the number of newly signed orders for oil tankers was 256, totaling 6,877,96 6CGT, among which, the proportions of the number of newly signed orders for container ships, bulk carriers and oil tankers are 25.83%, 17.97% and 10.27% respectively, and the proportions of newly signed CGT orders are 39.81%, 16.72% and 11.84% respectively.
    Among the world's top 30 shipbuilding groups with orders in hand, 18 are from China, 4 from South Korea, 5 from Japan and 3 from Europe. In terms of total orders (CGT), China State Shipbuilding Group ranked first, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding ranked fourth, and South Korea's three major shipbuilding giants HD Hyundai, Hanwha Marine, and Samsung Heavy Industries ranked second, third, and fifth respectively in terms of orders in hand.
    The remaining 16 Chinese shipbuilding groups on the list are COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (ranked 6th), China Merchants Shipbuilding (ranked 7th), Hengli Heavy Industry (ranked 8th), New Era Shipbuilding (ranked 9th), Zhoushan Changhong International (ranked 11th), Hantong Shipbuilding Industry (ranked 13th), Fujian Shipbuilding (ranked 14th), Wuhu Shipyard (ranked 14th). Ranked 16th), CIMC Group (ranked 19th), Nantong Xiangyu Marine Engineering (ranked 20th), Sanfu Shipbuilding (ranked 22nd), Jiangmen Nanyang Shipbuilding (ranked 24th), SUMEC Shipbuilding (ranked 27th), Penglai Jinglu Shipbuilding (ranked 28th), Huanghai Shipbuilding (ranked 29th) and Qinshi Group (ranked 30th).
    The five Japanese shipbuilding groups on the list are Imabari Shipbuilding (ranked 12th), Tsuneishi Shipbuilding (ranked 17th), Oshima Shipbuilding (ranked 18th), Nippon Shipbuilding United (ranked 21st), and Shinkorishima Shipbuilding (ranked 26th).
    The three European shipbuilding groups are Fincantieri (ranked 10th), Meyer Neptun (ranked 15th), and France's Chantiers de l'Atlantique (ranked 23rd).
    In the list of the world's top 30 shipowners with orders in hand, Mediterranean Shipping Company ranks first, followed by COSCO Shipping Group, CMA CGM, Eastern Pacific Shipping and Capital Maritime respectively in the top five. Ranking 6-10 are Atlas Corp (Seaspan), Nakilat, Evergreen Shipping, China Merchants Group and Japan Ocean Network Shipping (ONE).
    Among the shipowners ranked 11-30, there are three Chinese shipowners on the list, namely Wanhai Shipping (ranked 15th), Shandong Shipping (ranked 17th), and Yang Ming Shipping (ranked 30th). In addition, MOL & CSLNG JV, a joint venture between Mitsui Lines and COSCO Shipping Liquefied Natural Gas Investment Co., Ltd. (CSLNG), ranked 27th with an order book of approximately 1.21 million CGT for 12 ships.
    In the list of the top 30 shipbuilding groups with new orders in 2025, in terms of order-receiving countries, 20 are from China, 4 from South Korea, 3 from Japan, and 3 from Europe; in terms of total orders (CGT), China State Shipbuilding Corporation, HD Hyundai, Hengli Heavy Industries, Hanwha Marine, and COSCO Shipping Heavy Industries rank among the top five. Ranking 6-10 are China Merchants Shipbuilding, Samsung Heavy Industries, Zhoushan Changhong International, Fincantieri and Atlantic Shipyard.
    The remaining 15 Chinese shipbuilding groups on the list are Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (ranked 11th), Sanfu Shipbuilding (ranked 12th), Fujian Shipbuilding (ranked 14th), Hantong Shipbuilding Industry (ranked 15th), CIMC (ranked 16th), Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding (ranked 18th), Nantong Xiangyu Marine Equipment (ranked 20th) (ranked 22nd), Jiangmen Nanyang Shipbuilding (ranked 22nd), Taiwan Shipbuilding (ranked 23rd), New Era Shipbuilding (ranked 24th), Huanghai Shipbuilding (ranked 25th), Port Shipbuilding (ranked 26th), Qinshi Group (ranked 27th), SUMEC Shipbuilding (ranked 28th) and Penglai Jinglu Shipbuilding (ranked 30th).
    The three Japanese shipbuilding groups on the list are Oshima Shipbuilding (ranked 19th), Imabari Shipbuilding (ranked 21st) and Shinkorijima Shipbuilding (ranked 29th).
    Among the European shipbuilding groups, Meyer Neptun is also on the list, ranking 13th. In addition to HD Hyundai, Hanwha Marine and Samsung Heavy Industries, the Korean shipbuilding group also has K Shipbuilding, ranking 17th.
    Among the top 30 shipowners by order volume in 2025, Mediterranean Shipping Company, COSCO Shipping Lines, CMA CGM, Evergreen Shipping and Capital Maritime rank among the top five. Ranking 6-10 are Eastern Pacific Shipping, Cardiff Marine, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, Atlas Corp (Seaspan) and Wanhai Shipping.
    Among the shipowners ranked 11-30, there are three Chinese shipowners on the list, namely Yang Ming Shipping (ranked 13th), Jiangsu Port Group (ranked 23rd), and CITIC Group (ranked 25th).
