This year, Finnish startup Donut Lab brought their more explosive "black technology" product to the annual CES exhibition - what the company claims is "the world's first mass-produced all-solid-state battery."
At the 2026 CES show, Donut Lab announced that it will launch what it calls the world's first all-solid-state battery, which is ready for OEM mass production and will be first used on Verge Motorcycles' TS Pro and Ultra two-wheeled motorcycle models. If ultimately delivered to customers, it will be an important milestone in the global electrification process, marking the transition of solid-state technology from the laboratory to mass-produced models.

Fully charged in 5 minutes
According to reports, Donut Lab’s all-solid-state battery provides an energy density of 400 Wh/kg, enabling longer driving range, lighter structure, and unprecedented flexibility in vehicle and product design.
The battery can be fully charged in just 5 minutes without limiting charge to 80%, and supports safe, repeatable and reliable full discharge.
Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries, this all-solid-state battery has minimal capacity fading during its lifetime and has a design life of up to 100,000 cycles, providing an actual life span that far exceeds existing technology. Safety is at its core: no flammable liquid electrolytes, no thermal runaway chain reactions, and no metal dendrites. This essentially eliminates the cause of battery fires, making it extremely safe and truly revolutionary.
Donut Lab said the battery performance has been rigorously tested under extreme conditions. In extreme cold conditions (-30°C), the battery can still maintain more than 99% of its capacity; and when heated to temperatures exceeding 100°C, it can continue to maintain more than 99% of its capacity without any signs of fire or degradation.
In terms of raw materials and costs, Donut Lab said that its solid-state batteries are entirely made of materials with abundant reserves, low prices and geopolitical security, do not rely on rare or sensitive elements, and show lower costs than lithium-ion batteries.
However, Donut Lab did not clearly state the specific materials required to produce the all-solid-state battery.
Current application scenarios
Senior automotive industry reporter Antuan Goodwin had close contact with the Donut Lab all-solid-state battery model at this year's CES exhibition. According to it, this battery is similar in size to a large-screen smartphone (such as the iPhone 17 Pro Max) and is extremely lightweight. This ultra-light battery will also be very suitable for use in drones in the future.
Currently, Donut Lab's plan is to combine these batteries into larger 5-kilowatt-hour power units, each about the size of a PS5 game console. Four of these power units were then installed into the frame of the Verge TS Pro. This design breakthrough is due to the hubless ring motor integrated in the rear wheel announced by Donut Labs last year.
It is reported that Verge Motorcycles electric motorcycles can now be powered by Donut Lab’s all-solid-state batteries. The motorcycle will be the world’s first mass-produced vehicle equipped with this breakthrough technology. Donut Lab and Verge Motorcycles announced on Monday that Verge motorcycles equipped with the new battery will be available for pre-order starting today, with first deliveries starting in the first quarter of 2026. The TS Pro starts at $29,900.
