Congo extends cobalt export ban until October 15, and adopts annual quota policy afterwards
The Congo's strategic mineral regulator said on Sunday that the country will extend the cobalt export ban until October 15, lift the cobalt export ban on October 16, and implement annual export quotas. According to the announcement, mining companies will be allowed to export up to 18,125 tons of cobalt for the remainder of 2025, with an annual cap of 96,600 tons for 2026 and 2027. The Congo (DRC) accounted for about 70% of global cobalt production last year, and the country suspended exports since February as cobalt prices fell to nine-year lows and extended the ban in June.
