CATL and Stellantis held a groundbreaking ceremony for the lithium iron phosphate battery factory jointly invested and constructed in Spain
On November 26, 2025, CATL and Stellantis Group held a groundbreaking ceremony for a lithium iron phosphate battery factory jointly invested and constructed in the Aragon Autonomous Region of Spain. As one of China's largest investment projects in Spain, the project has a total investment of 4.1 billion euros. It will fully use renewable energy and is scheduled to be put into operation by the end of 2026.
Stellantis Group is one of the world's leading automobile manufacturers, aiming to provide users with environmentally friendly, safe and economical travel methods. In November 2023, Stellantis Group and CATL jointly signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding to serve Stellantis Group's electric vehicle manufacturing in Europe and provide it with localized lithium iron phosphate batteries and modules.
In December 2024, CATL and Stellantis Group announced that they would each hold 50% of the shares to establish a joint venture to build a large-scale lithium iron phosphate battery factory in Zaragoza, Spain, with a planned annual production capacity of up to 50 gigawatt hours.
CATL's two new factories in Germany and Hungary have been put into operation, bringing advanced battery manufacturing technology to Europe. The Spanish factory established this time will help enhance CATL’s technical capabilities to support customers in achieving climate goals, and accelerate the promotion of electric mobility and energy transformation in European and global markets.
