Global new ship order volume fell by more than 40% year-on-year
"Since the beginning of this year, due to factors such as slowing economic growth, excess shipping capacity, and external international competition, the global shipping market has declined significantly." Zhao Tongbin, deputy general manager of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, made the above statement during the 2025 China International Maritime Exhibition held from December 2 to 5. Data from the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Economic Research Center (hereinafter referred to as the CSSC Economic Research Center) show that from January to October 2025, a total of 1,632 new ship orders with 94.87 million deadweight tons were transacted globally, a year-on-year decrease of 44.5%.
